How to use styles from one document to another in Microsoft Word 2010

In Microsoft Word 2010 and older versions, you can actually reuse styles associated with one document to other documents. For example, you have created a document with good styling and you want to use that styling to other documents, either a new document or older one.

  1. Open you document to which you want apply the style
  2. Expand the Style Panel. See this article on how to expand the Style Panel
  3. Find Manage Style button at the bottom of the Style Panel

  4. Click Export/Import button on Manage Style window (bottom left of the window)
  5. You will see a window containing 2 boxes; one is to display styles from document acting as style resource and the other one is for the receiving document. By default, the current document (the recipient) style will be displayed on the left box. You may need first to click Close File for the right box and then Open File to allocate the resource file (from which you want to copy styles).
  6. In the resource document box (the right box), highlight all the styles you want use and click Copy button. This will transfer styles from the resource document to the receiving document.
  7. Click Close when you finished and check via Style Panel to see the new styles copied from the resource document.
